Here are some facts and figures about UK & Scottish income tax. All figures relate to the 2018 tax year which ends on 5 April 2018. The filing deadline for this year's tax returns is 31 January 2019


Tax tables

Personal tax-free allowance11,500
Your Personal Allowance goes down by 1 for every 2 that your adjusted net income is above 100,000. This means your allowance is zero if your income is 123,000 or above.
You also pay no tax on the first 1,000 of interest received, or the first 5,000 of dividends
Marriage Allowanceup to 1,150 can be transferred to a husband or wife who earns more than you, if you earn less than the taxfree allowance

UK Rates of Income Tax
Basic Rate 20%11,501 to 45,000
Higher rate 40%from 45,001 to 150,000
Additional rate 50%from 150,001
Scottish Rates of Income Tax
Basic Rate 20%11,501 to 43,000
Higher rate 40%from 43,001 to 145,000
Additional rate 50%from 145,001
