Tax Facts and Figures

Here are some facts and figures about UK & Scottish income tax. All figures relate to the 2018 tax year which ends on 5 April 2018. The filing deadline for this year's tax returns is 31 January 2019


Tax tables

Personal tax-free allowance£11,500
Your Personal Allowance goes down by £1 for every £2 that your adjusted net income is above £100,000. This means your allowance is zero if your income is £123,000 or above.
You also pay no tax on the first £1,000 of interest received, or the first £5,000 of dividends
Marriage Allowanceup to £1,150 can be transferred to a husband or wife who earns more than you, if you earn less than the taxfree allowance
Blind Persons Allowance£2,320
UK Rates of Income Tax
Basic Rate 20%£11,501 to £45,000
Higher rate 40%from £45,001 to £150,000
Additional rate 50%from £150,001
Scottish Rates of Income Tax
Basic Rate 20%£11,501 to £43,000
Higher rate 40%from £43,001 to £145,000
Additional rate 50%from £145,001
